Empowering Women at Sea and Shore: Hartmann Crew Philippines Hosts Groundbreaking Seminar

December-05-2024

In a bold stride toward fostering inclusivity and support in the maritime community, Hartmann Crew Philippines (HCP) took center stage with its Women Empowerment Seminar on December 5, 2024, at the CRI Penthouse in Malate, Manila.

This landmark event provided an inspiring platform for seafarers' wives and employees to connect, learn, and grow. Through meaningful discussions on mental health, leadership, and socialization, participants were reminded of the pivotal role women play in sustaining both the maritime industry and their families.

A Safe Harbor for Mental Health

As participants arrived, a welcoming atmosphere of camaraderie set the tone for the day. Mental health, often overlooked in the seafaring community, took the spotlight in the seminar’s opening session.

Ms. Patricia Kimberly Chua, a Licensed Psychometrician, delivered an enlightening talk that resonated deeply with attendees. She shed light on the psychological challenges faced by seafarers’ wives, who often balance caregiving with decision-making responsibilities at home. Her session emphasized the need for self-care and mental well-being as essential components of family resilience.

Rising Above: Women in Leadership

The spotlight then turned to leadership and the unique strengths women bring to the table. Mrs. Angelie Glorian, wife of Chief Engineer Edzel Glorian and a passionate advocate for women’s empowerment, inspired the audience with her story of perseverance and triumph.

Drawing from her dual roles as a teacher and a seafarer’s wife, Mrs. Glorian encouraged participants to embrace confidence, sharpen decision-making skills, and adapt to leadership challenges both at work and in their personal lives. Her message was clear: women have the power to lead and uplift their communities.

Socialization: Building Bridges and Bonds

The seminar’s final segment celebrated the importance of socialization in building a supportive network among women in the maritime community. A lively game of "human bingo," facilitated by event organizers, broke the ice and fostered genuine connections among attendees.

The interactive activity was more than just fun; it created opportunities for participants to share experiences and form lasting friendships with others who understand the unique challenges of being part of a seafaring family.

A Celebration of Strength and Unity

The day concluded on a high note with heartfelt messages from the event organizers. Tokens of appreciation were presented to the resource speakers, and a group photo session captured the joy and solidarity shared throughout the day.

Participants left with renewed hope and anticipation for similar initiatives in the future.

The Women Empowerment Seminar by Hartmann Crew Philippines was not just an event; it was a powerful celebration of resilience, leadership, and unity. By addressing vital topics such as mental health, leadership, and socialization, the seminar underscored the enduring strength of women within the maritime community.

As the industry evolves, events like this reaffirm a simple yet profound truth: seafarers’ strength lies not only in their ability to navigate the seas but also in the unwavering support of their families.
