HCP Celebrates Day of the Seafarer: Seafarers' Contribution to Protecting the Marine Environment

June-29-2023

Last June 22, Hartmann Crew Philippines and ISNTC joined the global observance of the Day of the Seafarer with a special event focusing on the theme, "Seafarers' Contribution to Protecting the Marine Environment."

One of the key highlights of the event was a mental health seminar, acknowledging the importance of seafarers' well-being. Recognizing the challenging nature of their work and the isolation they often face at sea; this event took the opportunity to shed light on mental health issues and provide resources for seafarers to seek support. The seminar aimed to raise awareness about mental health concerns and promote a culture of well-being within the maritime community.

A notable guest speaker at the mental health seminar was Lailani Tolentino from Mission to Seafarers. Tolentino shared valuable insights and practical strategies to enhance seafarers' mental resilience and provided guidance on maintaining a healthy work-life balance while at sea.

The event also included sessions with various service partners who collaborated with Hartmann Crew Philippines. These partners included the Philippine National Bank (PNB), DEEPSAI, MMPC, and CS Laundry System Philippines Corp. Each partner had an opportunity to present their services and interact with seafarers, offering valuable insights and solutions to address their specific needs.

HCP also organized a special segment called "Hartmann Talks with OWWA" (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration). The talk featured a guest speaker, Overseas Workers Welfare Officer IV Anna Liza M. Estrada, who shared important information about the various welfare programs and benefits available to seafarers and their families. This session aimed to ensure that seafarers are well-informed about their rights and entitlements, empowering them to make informed decisions for their well-being and future.

Continuing the series of service partner sessions, HCP featured a session with PAG-IBIG, the Philippine government's housing and provident fund program. Guest speaker Erwin Paul R. David provided insights into the benefits and services offered by PAG-IBIG, emphasizing the importance of financial planning and security for seafarers and their families.

To add an inspirational touch, Mr. Rex George Ramirez and Mr. Aaron Gerongco shared their Fishkeeping Club in the maritime industry. Ramirez and Gerongco successfully turned their hobbies into thriving businesses, demonstrating how seafarers can explore their passions beyond their maritime careers.

The Day of the Seafarer event served as a platform to honor seafarers' hard work, dedication, and contribution to protecting the marine environment. By addressing mental health concerns, providing access to essential services, and inspiring seafarers to pursue their dreams, Hartmann Crew Philippines demonstrated its commitment to the well-being and empowerment of seafarers. As the maritime industry continues to evolve, events like these play a crucial role in nurturing a supportive community and fostering a sustainable future for seafarers and the marine environment alike.
