HCP Advisory on COVID-19 (March 13, 2020)

To our seafarers and their families,

Community Quarantine

Metro Manila will be under community quarantine by Sunday, March 15 - that is good news as we we know the government is taking serious steps to control the spread of COVID 19 in the Philippines. All DOMESTIC air and sea travel to Manila has been cancelled. Overland transport will be subject to controls to ensure that only persons residing, working, or with business in Metro Manila are allowed entry. Other countries are making similar actions including the restriction of foreigners from COVID 19 infected countries, the Philippines has done the same.

These actions need to be done but it is creating a challenging situation for our principals, our seafarers, their families and the office staff. We are the stakeholders in this situation and we have to make it through together.

Office Operations

The office will continue to operate but we need cooperation, patience and understanding. Procedures have been in place to minimize unnecessary personal contacts with the office staff. Certain services have been suspended to exercise social distancing. We need to protect the office staff so we can continue to serve everyone.

We don't want seafarers to be exposed to infection if they commute to the office. If they can do something over the phone or online with our office staff, then let's do that. Seafarers need to remain healthy. If you have any other suggestions, we are listening.

Crew Changes

We know there is continued frustration as crew changes are cancelled or delayed, this will continue. We will have replacement crew who will now be stranded in the province due to the community quarantine of Metro Manila. We just had crew who were sent back to Manila in transit as countries suddenly imposed bans on crew change overnight.

Furthermore, crew with expired contracts, and whose relief has been delayed, will be automatically extended.

We would like to repeat our earlier statement: The Hartmann Group is ensuring that our crew onboard remain safe and secure from the COVID19. We are following industry, international, and local protocols meant to protect the crew like restricting visitors, banning shore leave and providing protective masks and disinfectants.

We are trying to get everyone who need to be home, home and those who need to be onboard, onboard when the circumstances allow.
