Hartmann Celebrates National Maritime Week and World Maritime Day 2023

October-17-2023

The celebration of National Seafarer's Day kick-started on September 24, 2023, at Pier 13, Port Area, Manila marked the beginning of the 24th National Maritime Week. The event participated by Hartmann Crew Philippines with Intership Navigation Training Center commenced with a Holy Mass, led by Most Rev. Ruperto Cruz Santos D.D., Bishop of Antipolo, Bishop Promoter of Stella Maris Manila, setting the tone for a week-long celebration that pays homage to the nation’s seafarers and their vital role in safeguarding the oceans. The religious ceremony invoked blessings upon the seafarers who ventured into the seas in the name of their profession.

One of the standout moments during this week's festivities was the Poster-Making and the Oratorical events held at the AMOSUP Convention in Intramuros, Manila. This platform provided a creative outlet for students to showcase their artistic talents and share inspirational messages relevant to the maritime industry. During this event, HCP's CCFC and Recruitment Teams played integral roles as part of the Registration Committee.

Continuing our dynamic involvement, HCP and ISNTC participated in the MARPOL Conference on September 28, 2023, at the MIDAS Hotel, Pasay City. The MARPOL Conference, a crucial component of the World Maritime Day celebrations, emphasized the urgent need to combat marine pollution. Atty. Maria Rowena Hubilla, Director of MARINA's Domestic Shipping Service (DSS) and Franchising Service (FS), delivered the opening remarks, stressing the necessity for unity within the maritime industry to address this critical issue.

On the same day, C/O Arvin Condez, Head of Recruitment Section, led company delegates to the STCW Forum, where crucial discussions unfolded. This year's STCW Forum focused on the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) Audit and Independent Evaluation, underlining the maritime industry's commitment to upholding international safety standards.

To celebrate World Maritime Day, levity to serious discussions, HCP's CCFC ensured that the crew had an enjoyable time by organizing games and providing free snacks. HRCD also infused a fun element with a game for employees, fostering camaraderie and happiness within the team.

Moreover, HCP and ISNTC with Hartmann seafarers participated in the ISWAN event, which took place at the Manila International Seafarers' Center (MISC) in South Harbor, Port Area, Manila. This event focused on promoting the welfare and well-being of seafarers, a cause that HCP holds dear.

In a display of talent and spirit, Kim Bryan Candidier represented HCP-ISNTC in the "Boses ng Marino" 2023 Karaoke Challenge and finished in Top 15. This showcased not just the professional side but also the vibrant personalities within the HCP and ISNTC team.

Mrs. Jerlyn Miguel, Processing Manager, attended the "SEAS THE DAY: A Celebration for Seafarers and their Families" event, a significant part of the 24th National Maritime Week 2023 held at the DMW Central Office. This gathering honored seafarers and their families, highlighting maritime safety and the preservation of marine environments and ecosystems.

The pinnacle of achievements came on September 30, 2023, in Makati City during the first-ever World Maritime Day Debate Competition. They passionately defended the affirmative side of the resolution "MARPOL IS STILL FIT FOR ITS PURPOSE," with Jesson Damien Belleza winning the award as Best Debater. The ISNTC Debate Team, represented by Kenneth Morales, John Paul Lorenzo, Jesson Damien Belleza, and Jeru Justice Jacla, emerged as THE OVERALL DEBATE CHAMPION. The debate competition, organized by Mr. Yrhen Bernard Balinis - IMO GOODWILL MARITIME AMBASSADOR, demonstrated HCP and ISNTC's academic acumen and dedication to creating meaningful conversation within the maritime community.

Again, Hartmann Crew Philippines displayed extraordinary enthusiasm and dedication throughout National Maritime Week and World Maritime Day this year. Their active involvement in various events, from conferences to debates and karaoke challenges, manifested their constant dedication to the maritime industry and the seafarers they serve. It merits noting that HCP has consistently participated in the maritime industry's significant occasions in the past years. The company continues to leave a significant impact on the maritime landscape, upholding values of excellence and camaraderie within its community.
