We’ve reached the third week of the enhanced community quarantine.

While our office still remains closed, we have slowly gotten used to the Work From Home Setup. We are able to work, but of course, not at 100% capacity. Plans are still being made for future crew changes, we still hold meetings (online), and are able to attend to inquiries. We are doing what we can, so when the time comes, we will be ready to bring home those that need to come back, and prepare those who are ready to start their employment.

To our seafarers, please do not hesitate to reach out to your crewing officer if you have questions about your line-up or if there are things you need to clarify. So much has happened in the past few weeks, and while we may not have all the answers, we will do our best to give you whatever correct information we have. This includes government benefits.

Our staff has been relentless in contacting OWWA for guidelines on how they plan to implement the aid they have announced for OFWs. As of writing, they have not published these guidelines yet but we have compiled what we know so far and you may read it here. If you have questions, our contact details are at the bottom of this note.

We’d like to believe that our government is truly working for its people, and that our leaders understand their duty to the public. There are days when it is difficult to hold on to this hope when our own head of state threatens his citizens with violence. But there are positive stories too, such as LGUs who have risen to the occasion, as well as the bayanihan efforts of so many ordinary citizens.

We urge our HCP community to stay strong, but to also be vigilant amid the crisis. This will not be a short voyage and the end will be a new reality. Things will not be the same as before, except that we will still be left with each other to depend on. Let us exercise trust, patience and common sense to get through this.
