HCP strengthens its commitment to banning single-use plastics
Hartmann Crew Philippines (HCP) signified its commitment in banning the single-use plastic during the 27th National Seafarers’ Day on September 25, 2022.
HCP President, Mr. Giovanni Tuapin, together with the company’s Chief Financial Officer Divina Repedro, signed the Pledge of Commitment that declares cooperation with all other agencies promoting the application of waste reduction and management techniques on banning single-use plastics.
It could be recalled in one event that HCP’s President once said, “All these actions are in line with the company’s commitment of building careers, preserving family, and strengthening the nation.”
In an inclusive interview with HCP President, he noted, “The signing of the pledge is a strong stance of the company to be caring and protective of the environment – to be conscious of our practices and behavior if we want our planet to sustain healthy marine life for us seafarers, for our families and for all generations.”
This action is another significant feat of the company’s advocacy on being responsible for the environment, one of the three pillars of its corporate social responsibility.
The signing of the said pledge was undertaken with the presence and initiatives of high ranking officials of the three cooperating agencies, namely Atty. Francisquiel Mancile of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), and ADM Artemio Abu, RADM Joseph Coyme and Capt. Lowie Palines of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and Mr Samuel L Batalla who represented Atty. Hernani Fabia of the Maritine Industry Authority (MARINA).
In a message after the signing, PCG RADM Coyme encouraged everyone to share a common vision of banning single-use of plastic in the Philippines which for him was a small step but would make a better and cleaner world.
The ceremonial was held as one of the highlights of the national celebration of seafarers which coincided with the 23th National Maritime Week.
