Hartmann Collabs with MENRO to Free a Hundred Sea Turtles
When done collectively, a small step can have a big impact on marine life. This has been the significant message of Hartmann Crew Philippines (HCP) when the company joined the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) in the “Sea Turtle Hatchlings Release” on January 28, 2023.
Mr. Noelito Pasco, Head of San Juan MENRO, discussed how sea turtles played vital roles in maintaining the health of marine biodiversity for more than 100 million years. He reported that these sea turtles maintain productive coral reef ecosystems and transport essential nutrients from the oceans to beaches and coastal dunes. Following the discussion on environmental protection, San Juan MENRO facilitated the release of the hatchlings which is the highlight of the activity.
True to one of HCP’s corporate social responsibility pillars, Hartmann officers seized the opportunity of caring for nature by releasing a hundred sea turtle hatchlings at the shores of San Juan in Batangas.
When Mr. Giovanni Tuapin, HCP President, was asked how important this event to the company, he quipped, “This activity is an authentic and tangible effort of Hartmann in caring for the environment, particularly the marine ecosystem since we are part of its life circle. Our industry rests on its health and wellness. So, we have to be concerned and care for it”
It was a chance for the company to give back to the MENRO officials with its donations of flashlights and raincoats which could be used by the personnel in charge of tending the hatchlings and guarding the protected areas considered to be the breeding ground for sea turtles. Likewise, the company conducted a coastal clean-up targeting trash and plastic materials that are thought to be harmful to marine life.
HCP has three pillars of corporate social responsibility. One of them is caring for the environment.
