If you have not taken and pass the theoretical examination and/or practical assessment for the Operational and Management level and GOC (for deck officers) by December 2019, you will be required to undergo the WHOLE assessment of competence under the STCW Circulars 2018-08 or 2018-09.

We are expecting that the updated examinations will be more challenging in order to meet the requirements of the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) in connection to STCW.

Important dates

14 December 2018 – Deadline for filing of an application for theoretical examination under the STCW circular 2014-08 to 2014-13 and 2016-17.
28 December 2018 – Last day of the conduct of theoretical examination under the STCW circular 2014-08 to 2014-13 and 2016-17.
Until December 2019– Until December 2019 – Pending re-sits (Theoretical/Practical), Practical exams and GOC (for deck officers).

*Seafarers who have taken and passed the practical assessment BUT have not taken the theoretical examination for the Operational and Management Level and GOC shall be required to take and pass the theoretical examination under the STCW Circulars 2018-08 or 2018-09, as applicable.

1 May 2019 – implementation of STCW Circulars 2018-08 and 2018-09. The Examination and Assessment Division will start accepting applications for theoretical examination starting January 2, 2019.
