Maritime Fair and Kapihan with CCFC on HCP’s WMD ‘17 celebration

October-02-2017

Hartmann Crew Philippines (HCP) marked the celebration of the World Maritime Day (WMD) 2017 with simultaneous activities at the Philippine International Cultural Center (PICC) and at its office at Malate, Manila on September 27-28, 2017.

The event is anchored on the WMD 2017 theme, “Connecting Ships, Ports, and People” which recognizes the significance of the maritime industry—a diverse, interconnected industry that has given birth to many sectors and opportunities, all with the potential to contribute to a truly sustainable economy.

On these dates, HCP joined the 2-day fair organized by the Maritime Industry Authority at the PICC Forum wherein it offered activities in line with this year’s said theme.

One is an activity map wherein seafarers were asked to connect all the countries they’ve sailed to around the world with a string to form a visual representation of how far and wide the Filipino seafarer has gone. It became a colorful testament to the Filipino seafarer’s importance in connecting the world.

Connecting the world. A seafarer has already sailed around the globe through the years of his service.

Non-seafarers got intrigued to the activity map and took a photo with it.

The map is on display at the CCFC lounge till the end of the year.

The second activity was HCP’s new online quiz—“10 Questions You Should Be Able to Answer about Ships, Ports and People” which tested the wit of participants to 10 facts about ship, ports, and people.

All visitors who tried either of the activities had the chance to pick and win at the raffle.

All participants of the Kapihan had a chance to win at the raffle.

Meanwhile, happening simultaneously on the afternoon of September 28 at the HCP office was the third wave of Kapihan with CCFC.  Aside from giving updates and answering HCP crew’s concerns on services related to the company, HCP President and CEO Alberto Gomez also gave a talk on the status of the maritime industry.

Got questions? An HCP crew clarifies his query about the Medical Assistance Benefits.

Mr. Gomez explained that the current trend happening was the “new normal” in maritime.

“We are in a situation wherein hindi na lumalaki ang trade at medyo sumobra na ang barko. That’s why sinasabi nila humina ang barko but the truth is, naga-adjust lang sa katotohanan. Ganyan ngayon ang situation.

He expounded that this occurrence led for ship owners to experiment on employing other nationalities which require lower compensation compared to Filipinos.

“Para sa mga Pilipino, this is the challenge for us. Ito na ‘yong bagong normal. ‘Yong sinasabi nilang magaling ang pinoy pagdating sa dagat, totoo iyon, pero may mga nakapasok na rin na iba. Nasa kamay nyo na patunayan na mas magagaling kayo. Patunayan n’yo na may konti mang deperensya sa sweldo hinahabol naman natin sa kalidad,” said Gomez.
