HCP and MMPC at Aklan and Iloilo for its Visayan leg of Financial Literacy Seminars
Last April 15 and 16, Hartmann Crew Philippines (HCP) in partnership with The Maritime Multi Purpose Cooperative (MMPC), tackled the topic of financial security—and how to achieve it—in its All About The Money Financial Literacy Seminar. The event took place at Aklan Polytechnic College in Kalibo and Hotel Del Rio in Iloilo. Participants included both HCP crew and their families.
The guest speaker was Mr. Eugene Gonzalez, an independent consultant with a background in strategic planning, project development, and management. He serviced the likes of the Ford Foundation, The World Bank, and US AID. Mr. Gonzalez wrote the “Pinoy Guide to Managing Finances” for the Ateneo de Manila University Department of Economics. It is being used by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas in its financial literacy campaigns all over the country.
The seminar started off with the basics of saving and a simple exercise to help participants get a better idea of their life’s priorities. Other topics included equities, insurance, and loans among others. An open forum also gave attendees the chance to ask questions and interact with one another.
HCP has always placed an importance on financial security as part of its mission to build careers, preserve families, and strengthen a nation. As early as 2004, the promotion of a savings culture has been included in the company’s cadetship program in order to guide the next generation of maritime professionals. It was then developed further to be offered to all other ranks and their families including those outside Manila.
