With the participation of Sun Life Financial Company, Hartmann Crew Philippines (HCP) brought to its crew, families and employees an interactive way to learn finance through the use of a board game last October 22, Saturday at the CRI Penthouse, Malate, Manila.

Called the “Brighter Life Praxis,” players were challenged to make financial decisions as they played through the game allowing them to experience changing economic cycles such as getting promoted, acquiring illnesses, and obtaining assets among others.

Some weren’t very lucky while others managed to survive the challenge with flying colors.

Felyn Villamarin, an HCP employee and wife of Oiler Mark Lester Villamarin, turned out to be the game’s highest earner by raking in 54,700 worth of Praxis assets.

“‘Yong game sobrang exciting pero nakakabitin. Marami akong natutunan kasi dapat hindi mo i-take advantage ‘yong hawak mong pera and hindi lang dapat basta-basta bili lang nang bili. You know how to save for your needs hindi lahat kailangan. Alamin mo muna kung kailangan mo ba ‘yon or hindi and ‘yong kung paano ka magi-invest at ano ‘yong pwede mong i-invest na alam mong babalik din at kikita ka”, said Felyn, the official overall winner of the board game."

Highest asset earner, Felyn Villamarin receives her 50,000php worth of personal accident insurance.

As the game’s top earner, Felyn won Php 50,000 worth of personal accident insurance care of Sun Life Financial.

Participants could sit no more as the play gets intense.

Meanwhile, O/S Limuel Villan ended up with a not-so-favorable outcome.

“Well sa part ko kasi parang ‘di ganun kaganda ‘yong ikot n’ya kasi in first place ‘yong unang roll ko pa lang ng dice is that ‘di na s’ya maganda kasi laging nasa savings wala naman akong enough na pera so medyo sa una nakaka-disappoint then thankful ako kasi medyo tumaas 'yong trabaho ko don sa game. Medyo okay na kasi tumaas na 'yong income ko. Nag-expect ako na 'pag nakaikot ulit ako, magkakaroon ako ng pera and then may mga twist twist na s’ya tapos biglang, ok panay talaga 'yong punta ko don sa unemployed.”

Limuel went on to say that he had been unemployed six times, thus causing his unfortunate result. To motivate him, Sun Life Financial awarded him Php 25,000 worth of personal accident insurance and advice from the game personnel to help him address the difficulties he encountered during the game.

In addition to Felyn and Limuel, six other participants received Php25,000 worth of personal accident insurance for accomplishing different missions throughout the game.

The seminar concluded with a simple fellowship lunch for all the participants.

Michelle Lynn Funte, who came in the seminar with her two kids, is happily enjoying the lunch.

“The activity provided by the company helped us a lot to reflect, save, and be prepared at all times. This is the 2nd time that I joined an activity related to financial literacy and it actually helps me and my husband. I was able to share it to him and convince him to get insurance so we are both insured now. Thank you very much for giving us this opportunity to join this activity,” said Shiela Vergara, wife of Bosun Eric Vergara.
